Police were called out when a group of horses went for a late night trot around Newquay.

Between five and seven horses were spotted trotting down the street in the early hours on Monday (25 May).

One resident said: "I live on Henver Road, Newquay, and I've just seen five horses trotting towards the town."

The horses ranged in size and colour from big horses to smaller ponies. I called the police who were going out to look for them but I don’t know what happened or if they found them as they were concerned that this may cause an accident. It was a very bizarre experience and was quite a sight to see.

Police confirmed they tried to find the owners of the horses. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 1.30am on Monday, May 25, following reports that several horses were running up Trevenson Road, Newquay.

"Officers helped round-up five horses into a nearby field."
