Chard crash: Tribute to 'lovely family man' who died after mobility scooter collision

The family of an elderly man who died following a crash involving a mobility scooter and a van have paid tribute to him.

James Wright was riding his scooter along Furnham Road in Chard at on the morning of Saturday 27 November when the incident happened.

The 84-year-old was taken to hospital where sadly he died on Tuesday 30 November.

In a statement, his family said: “He was a lovely, happy joking family man. Those whom he met on his life’s journey would have laughs and jokes with him aplenty.

"He was a gentleman to all. He loved to help anyone.

“Even in his final hours he continued to joke saying the nurses found him attractive as they were all over him.

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He brought sunshine and laughter to us all.

Enquiries into the collision are ongoing and police have asked anyone with information to call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221279138.
