A section of the M4 near Bristol is closed following a crash involving a lorry and a fuel spillage.

The eastbound-side of the carriageway between junctions 19 and 18 for Bristol and Bath was shut around 4am and is likely to remain closed until "early afternoon".

A lorry was involved and spilled fuel on the road, which is causing significant traffic delays - with only one westbound lane open.

Repairs are ongoing but disruption is expected for a number of hours, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

In a tweet, the force said: “The M4 is shut eastbound between J19 and J18 after a single-vehicle collision and subsequent fuel spillage at about 3.20am.

“Only one lane on the westbound carriageway is open. Disruption is expected throughout the morning.”
