A six-vehicle crash closed the M4 last night, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.

Wiltshire Police have today (December 7) issued an appeal for dashcam footage and witnesses after a crash at 7.45pm yesterday (December 6).

The motorway was closed eastbound between junction 18 (Tomarton Interchange) and junction 17 (Stanton St Quinton).

Police say the incident involved six vehicles, with police, the fire service and the ambulance service all in attendance.

A spokesperson said: "Thankfully, although a number of people required hospital treatment, nobody suffered injuries deemed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"The eastbound carriageway was closed for a number of hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

"We are now carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

"We would urge any witnesses to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage from this section of road around the time of the incident to contact us on 101 and quote log 278 of yesterday's date (06/12)."
