Barn destroyed in fire near Yate

One crew is still at the scene of a barn fire at Westerleigh near Yate in South Gloucestershire. Firefighters were called to the three bay Dutch barn in Codrington Road at 9.30pm last night. The barn and its contents, 200 tonnes of straw and hay, were well alight.

There was baled silage at the site but a local farmer moved it out of the way, where it also acted as a fire break.

Three crews worked overnight and succeeded in stopping the fire spreading. The barn and contents were destroyed. It's not yet known what caused it.
