Rural areas in Cornwall benefit from 'superfast' broadband

The lack of fast broadband has been often listed as one of the biggest issues affecting people living in rural parts of the West Country.

Figures released, earlier this year, mentioned two constituencies in Devon as among the worst places in the UK for broadband.

However, some of the remotest parts of the Duchy in Cornwall are now enjoying an 'internet revolution', as Steve Hardy has been finding out.

Chancellor: My ambition is for the UK to be a world leader in 5G

The Chancellor has promised to invest over £1 billion pounds in the country's digital infrastructure.

In his Autumn Statement, Phillip Hammond pledged to sustain the effort to rollout faster broadband.

If it goes ahead, it will be welcome news for the West Country - where many homes, businesses and whole communities face daily frustrations from a lack of a decent internet connection

The news was welcomed by MPs from across the region:

Rural villages in the Cotswolds will be connected to ultra-fast broadband

A Gloucestershire MP has welcomed the news more villages in the Cotswolds will be connected to ultra-fast broadband.

Under the deal, contractors Gigaclear will provide connections to around six and a half thousand extra customers in hard-to-reach areas such as Chedworth.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Conservative MP for The Cotswolds, says the £3million investment will benefit thousands of homes.
