David Tennant and Olivia Colman will return for a third series in the award winning and critically acclaimed drama Broadchurch.

We’ve been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of Broadchurch. This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I’m thrilled to be writing these characters once again.

The return of the popular ITV thriller Broadchurch has prompted a large rise in the number of people searching for holidays in the west country.

According to the booking website Hotels.com, searches in Somerset have risen by up to 200%.

Locations in Somerset and Dorset were used to film the fictional town. In the days following the first episode of the new season searches for hotels in Portishead have risen by 200%, and in Bridport the numbers have risen by 161%.

The second episode of the new season airs tonight.

Broadchurch regularly attracted an average of nine million viewers per episode in 2013, perfectly showcasing this beautiful area to a huge audience. It is clear that Brits take travel inspiration from their favourite TV programmes, with this drama the latest to boost search figures to a specific UK location – as the series progresses it will be interesting to see if the growth in popularity matches it.
