Ansford railway bridge in Castle Cary - which shut controversially in the summer - is expected to re-open to traffic in both directions. The A371 has been closed at the bridge since July and is reported to have cost the local economy millions of pounds.

Many businesses were forced to send their lorries on a 32 mile diversion to deliver to local customers.

The controversial closure of the Ansford railway bridge in Castle Cary is due to partially re-open today.

The A371 has been closed at the bridge since July and is reported to have cost the local economy millions of pounds.

It meant many businesses were forced to sent their lorries on a 32 mile diversion to deliver to local customers.

Somerton and Frome MP David Heath brought up the issue in Parliament last week.
