Protesters march to save local library in Bristol

More than a hundred protesters joined a march this morning to try to stop a council-run library from closing in Bristol.

The Save Wick Road Library campaigners organised the walk to show how important the service is to the local community. A public consultation on the future of the service finishes next month.

Val Cobbin, one of the organisers of the protest, told us the library was part of the local community's lifeblood.


Unison to lobby Devon council on care home cuts

Trade Union Unison are to lobby Devon County Council's scrutiny meeting today to oppose the council's decision to close 20 residential homes.

The Devon branch-who represent the county's public service workers claim the decision will leave hundreds of vulnerable adults with an uncertain future and will see over 1,000 council employees lose their jobs.
