Nautical tribute to Normandy veterans in Torbay

The region's D-Day 70th anniversary commemorations have finished in style this afternoon.

Veterans of the Normandy landings were guests of honour as a flotilla of a hundred boats paid them a nautical tribute.

The men were onboard the historic World War 2 vessel The Fairmile as it sailed across Tor Bay flanked by HMS Pembroke.

Royal Navy Cmdr Tom Herman says the bay was an important port:

Normandy veterans will take the salute in Torbay harbour today (2pm) as more than 100 vessels form a flotilla in their honour.

The men who fought on D-Day will be on board the historic WW2 ship The Fairmile for the sail past. It's the Royal Navy's tribute to the veterans and forms the centrepiece of today's commemorations.
