The new Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, Alison Hernandez, is beginning her first day in office despite being the subject of a police investigation.

An outside force is investigating claims she failed to properly declare campaign expenses in the 2015 general election while she was the Conservative election agent inTorbay.

She says they were part of national, rather than local, spending.

Devon & Cornwall's Chief Constable has told ITV News that discussions are on going with other forces regarding allegations that she failed to properly declare campaign expenses in last year's General Election.

Alison Hernandez was the Conservative Party's Election Agent for Torbay. Now the expenses forms that she signed, and the returns of three other Conservative Agents in Devon and Cornwall, are being investigated.

Today Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said 'it's not the start anyone would have chosen' but it's how it's dealt with that matters:

Devon and Cornwall's new police and crime commissioner is facing calls to stand aside while she's invesigated over allegations she failed to properly declare campaign expenses in last year's General Election.

Alison Hernandez was the Conservative Party's Election Agent for Torbay. Now the expenses forms that she signed, and the returns of three other Conservative Agents in Devon and Cornwall, are being looked into.

Mrs Hernandez was elected to her new job on Friday, prompting the Chief Constable to today announce his force won't investigate her, or any of the others under suspicion, to avoid a conflict of interest.

Well Ms Hernandez declined any interviews with the media today. Instead she spoke to her own Press Office on camera:
