Gloucestershire Police have been called to reports that a World War II device had been found at a building site on St Ann Way in Gloucester.
The item was found in a site which is directly behind the Sainsbury's supermarket.
St Ann Way and the supermarket car park have been cordoned off and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit (EOD) has been informed.
