Kerry McCarthy has resigned as shadow environment secretary in protest of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour Party.

She was an advocate for Britain to remain in the EU, and her resignation follows continued criticism from within the Labour party of leader Jeremy Corbyn's 'lacklustre' campaigning in the run-up to the referendum.

The Bristol East MP joins Lilian Greenwood, Lucy Powell, Ian Murray, Gloria De Piero and Heidi Alexander who have also stepped down from their roles

South Western Ambulance crisis discussed in Parliament

The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt says South Western Ambulance Service will be taking on more paramedics to help prevent a repeat of the crisis over Christmas which led to a huge increase in 999 calls.

Mr Hunt was responding to a question by Kerry McCarthy, the Labour MP for Bristol East.

Calls for Bristol EDL march to be banned

AN MP is calling for a march through Bristol by the English Defence League to be banned.

The controversial protest group are due to hold their rally on July 14, the same day as Bristol Pride is due to take place.

A heavy police presence is guaranteed on the day, with up to 700 officers expected on duty.

But Bristol East Labour MP Kerry McCarthy says she fears for public safety.
