Somerset man to lead team in world's longest ocean race

Somerset man chosen to lead team in world's longest ocean race

A man from Somerset has been chosen to lead a team of sailors in the world's longest ocean race.

Darren Ladd from Midsomer Norton is one of twelve skippers - hoping for victory in the Clipper Race. The twelve teams of amateur sailors set off from the UK in August. The challenge will take almost a year to complete.

I've worked now for Clipper for three years, and at the very early start of my Clipper career I was really excited to be involved. And then slowly I thought I've got to be a part of this, I've got to get involve in the racing. And what I've done in the last few years has been all towards becoming a clipper skipper. So all of my experiences and everything I've been doing has been towards that.
