Stadium for Cornwall approved

Cornwall Council has approved a planning application for an out of town shopping centre which will pay for the new Stadium for Cornwall.

Permission had already been granted for the stadium on the outskirts of Truro - but the money to build it depended on permission for a shopping development at West Langarth, about four miles from the city centre.

That's just been approved, against the recommendation of council officials.

Bristol Rovers' plans to move to a new stadium have been hit by a further delay.A planning meeting to discuss proposals to build a Sainsbury's supermarket at their current home - the Memorial Stadium - has been put back until January 16.

It was scheduled to be held on December 5.

Rovers already have planning permission to build a new stadium in Frenchay on land owned by the University of the West of England.

They had hoped to move in to their new ground at the start of the 2014/15 season but chairman Nick Higgs has admitted that now looks unlikely.

Cornwall Stadium plans receive a major blow

Plans for a £24 million sports stadium look doomed after the leader of Cornwall Council says it can't commit any public funds. There was a chance the council's cabinet of senior councillors would overrule a council decision last week which refused to support the scheme.

But council leader Alec Robertson said it would not go against the wishes of the council.
