A suspected cache of stolen goods including war medals, family photos and engraved memorabilia has been discovered in Torquay. Police are now appealing for information as they try to trace the owners of the items, many of which are believed to have huge sentimental worth.
Among the items are eight medals, including four dress medals and four originals for long service, a campaign medal for Northern Ireland and Borneo, service in Palestine between 1945 and 1948 and a Royal Army RAMC between 1939 and 1945 belonging to Sgt A Flemming.
DC Jason Metcalfe said the items had been seized by officers after they carried out warrants at an address in Watcombe and then on Woodlands Industrial Estate in April and May.
He said: “An amount of items and drugs were seized at the first address. Working on intelligence gathered and following other inquiries we then located a storage container and when we executed a warrant there we found a number of what we believe to be stolen items".
A man in his 50s was arrested and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
