There's no doubt that the Westcountry has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. And when you know what you're looking for you can see clues which point to how people lived centuries ago.
In Roman times, the people of Somerset, Dorset and Gloucestershire lived in large villages and showed off their wealth with palatial villas. West of the Blackdown Hills in Devon and Cornwall they lived in smaller hamlets with a far less lavish lifestyle.
The evidence remains in the shape of the land today, but there's fears that these regional differences could be lost. Bob Cruwys reports.
