Guilty verdict for woman who killed her aged mother

A woman who smothered her sick mother with a pillow has been found guilty of murder by a jury at Plymouth Crown Court.

49-year-old Angela Douglas from Ernesettle in Plymouth said she killed the frail housebound pensioner because she did not want to see her suffer any more.

The mother-of-two has admitted causing the death of 73-year-old Ann Matthews as she lay in bed in April last year but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The jury had been reduced to 11 after one woman was removed for failing to pay attention to all of the evidence.
