The Fire Brigades Union says there was a 90 per cent turn out from its members in Avon and Somerset in the first of eight consecutive days of strike action. Fire Brigade Union members are unhappy at plans to raise their retirement age from 55 to 60 and increase their pension contributions. The action is being held over three hours each day. The government says the deal on offer is fair.
