Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has turned down the Freedom of his home town - saying he doesn't deserve it.

The civic honour would give Chris, 37, permission to drive his livestock through the city centre of Exeter and draw his sword in public.

But the singer, who was born in Whitestone on the outskirts of Exeter, says he isn't ready for the award, that dates back to the 13th century.

Previous recipients include Admiral Lord Nelson.

Exeter City Council contacted the musician after an internet campaign was launched to mark his achievement.

He has said he would like to be considered for the award but not at the moment as he hasn't yet done enough for the city.
