Launceston losing business over faulty internet cable

Many shops in Launceston are losing business because they haven't had access to a telephone or internet for weeks.

A faulty cable along the high street has affected up to 200 lines. It's hitting retailers hard during what should be their busiest time of the year.

BT says the problem has now been resolved but some areas are still experiencing problems.

We are sorry for the delay in restoring services for some households and businesses in Launceston. This has been a complex repair involving the replacement of a substantial section of underground cable, night-time working on a busy road and the need to clear blocked underground ducting.

The repair job was completed last night and we are now checking to ensure that, in the event of any customers still having problems, these are cleared as quickly as possible.
