Airbus crashes in Southern French Alps

An Airbus A320 has crashed into the southern French Alps it has been reported.

The aircraft crashed was carrying 148 people, an official has told AFP news agency.

The plane - operated by Lufthansa's Germanwings budget airline - was en route from Barcelona to Duesseldorf at the time of the crash. It is believed to have gone down near Digne-les-Bains.

The Airbus A320's plane wings are designed in Filton near Bristol,
