School in Cheddar issues 'grooming' warning

Churchill Academy in Cheddar has issued a letter to parents warning them about potential inappropriate behaviour via the social networking site Facebook.

It comes after the school was contacted by a parent who raised concerns about a suspect online Facebook profile. Police are now investigating.

We have been contacted by a parent to say that they have a very strong suspicion that some of Churchill Academy’s students have been targeted by a potential ‘Groomer/Paedophile’ on Facebook.

This person claims to be a female aged approximately 13 years of age. She or he is calling themselves Mandy Jackson. We are told they are attempting to befriend mainly boys and trying to arrange to meet up with them. They claim to attend a school in Bristol.

If your son/daughter has been contacted by this person please inform Mrs McKay or their Head of House and, most importantly, please report this to the police and Facebook.

Students have received this information today and the police have been informed and will be investigating this incident. Any suspicious or unusual requests to ‘friend’ a stranger on Facebook needs to be treated with the utmost suspicion.
