Protesters have been gathering outside Gloucestershire County Council this afternoon as councillors discuss plans for fracking.

They are meeting in the city's shire hall to decide if the Forest of Dean could be an appropriate test site for drilling. The technique for extracting shale gas is controversial, with environmentalists claiming it can be destructive.

"It opens the door to turning the forest of dean into a gas field in the future, we've seen what happened in Australia and America, they've had ten years of it there and it is devastating. The evidence is everywhere there."
