The takeover of Plymouth Albion RFC by former players Bruce Priday and Dave Venables has been formally ratified by the RFU.

The RFU confirmed that Plymouth Albion would be playing National 1 rugby in the 2016-17 season.

There were fears that Plymouth Albion could be demoted down the league structure, like Richmond RFC some years ago.

Priday and Venables have had to put up a cash ‘Bond Deposit’ of £147,000, which will be held by the RFU.

While we are really pleased that Plymouth Albion will be playing National 1 rugby next season, we feel the size of the ‘Bond Deposit’ to be excessively large.

We presented a well prepared case which highlighted the strong working relationship we have with Plymouth City Council and the desire of both parties to build a Premiership standard club in the City.
