A beach-side cafe made famous by David Cameron during his annual trips to Cornwall has been given a food hygiene rating of zero.

The former prime minister and his wife Samantha were often pictured outside the Galleon Beach Cafe during their holidays in Polzeath.

But following an inspection by the council's food inspectors, the cafe was found among the worst in the county for cleanliness and hygiene.

It was awarded the lowest rating on the zero to five scale which means "urgent improvements are necessary".

The rating revealed that the "system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat" required "urgent improvement".

A full report and breakdown of the issues at the cafe has been requested from Cornwall Council.

So far ITV News has been unable to reach the cafe for comment.
