A pair of holiday makers were tied up and assaulted before their mobile phones and cash were stolen in a case of mistaken identity.

The man and woman, in their 50s and 60s, were visiting Welcombe in Torridge, when two men in balaclavas forced entry into their cottage.

The men who were armed, and had strong accents from the West Midlands, fled the area soon after, police say.

Detective Constable Ben Cartwright of Devon and Cornwall police said "We believe that this was a case of mistaken identity and the wrong property and people were targeted by these two individuals."
