Game of Talents

Series overview

Eight performers, eight incredible talents. In Game of Talents performers will entertain and amaze. But there’s a catch – the viewers and the contestants have no idea what those talents are. Can you tell the fire eater from the footballer or the line dancer from the lion tamer?

Vernon Kay presents this brand-new ITV series in which two contestants will battle it out each week to guess the talents, as they compete for the chance to win a life changing sum of money. Two celebrities will help them to make the right decisions before the performers “Show us your talent.”

Competing in pairs, the contestants and their celebrity teammates will try to figure out the surprising and often bizarre hidden talents of the eight mystery performers in each episode. Can they spot the talents based solely on the performers’ appearances and some intriguing clues?

In this guessing game like no other, talent show and game show collide. But there can only be one winner in each programme.  The contestants will have to correctly guess the talents of the performers who walk out in front of them. To kick off the game, a list of eight extraordinary talents will be displayed on the board and one by one over seven rounds the performers will take to the stage and introduce themselves – revealing only basic information.

In each round, the contestant can either play, or pass to their opponents. A clue about the performer’s talent is then given to the team trying to guess the talent, these clues can take many forms, and some will be delivered by famous faces.

Before the performers reveal their talents, it’s time to find out how much their guess is worth. Seven ‘cash balls’ rise from a podium, each one displaying a different amount ranging from £500 to £10,000. How much is inside?  And, more importantly, have the duo guessed the talent correctly?

For every correct guess a team makes, they bank the money inside their chosen cash ball, however, get it wrong and the money goes over to the opposing team. Whoever has banked the most money after seven performances will go through to the final round to play for their prize pot. Along the way Vernon ups the stakes by adding cash balls of £20,000 and £50,000 into the game.

Only one duo can go through to the final, but will the contestant who gets through take home the money they have banked? In the final round one talent remains on the board – which means the contestant and their celebrity teammate already know our final performer’s talent.  Therefore, in order to win their prize pot they need to identify the performer out of the four strangers presented to them on stage.  One of them is our remaining talented performer and the other three are imposters.

Will the contestant and their celebrity partner be able to correctly guess who out of the lineup is the talented performer? It’s time to make their final guess. The remaining erformer will take to the stage for a jaw dropping finale. But has the contestant guessed correctly? Or could they fall at the final hurdle and lose everything?

HOW THE GAME WORKS

In each episode of Game of Talents eight performers will entertain the viewers with their amazing talents. But viewers at home and the contestants in the studio will have no idea what their talents are.

Two contestants will compete each week to win a life changing sum of money. They will each be helped by a celebrity. But in order to win, they will have to correctly guess the talents of the eight performers who walk out in front of them throughout the show.

To kick off the game a list of eight extraordinary talents will be displayed on the board.

Performer number one takes to the stage and introduces themselves – revealing only basic information about themselves (i.e. where they’re from, occupation, hobbies). Based on first impressions alone, team one now has a choice. They can either play (if they’re feeling confident they can guess the person’s talent), or pass (if they’re concerned they’re going to guess incorrectly). A fun clue is then given to the team trying to guess the talent.

Clues on Game of Talents can take many forms, some of which will be delivered by famous faces.

The team playing then has to decide which talent from the list of eight they think belongs to that performer. Are they a fire eater or an opera singer, an acrobat or a weightlifter, for example?  The contestant and their celebrity teammate make their decision and the performer is sent off backstage to prepare for their performance.

CASH BALLS

Before we reveal their talent, it’s time to find out how much their guess is worth. Seven ‘cash balls’ rise from a podium, each one displaying a different amount, ranging from £500 to £10,000.

The contestant’s celebrity partner will choose the ‘cash ball’, but for now it remains unopened. How much is inside?  And more importantly, have the duo guessed the talent correctly?

This matters because for every correct guess a team gives, they bank the money inside their chosen cash ball, however get it wrong and the money goes over to the opposing team instead (hence the importance of the play or pass decision).

It’s time for the performer to “Show us your talent”. Following the jaw dropping performance the contents of the cash ball will now be revealed as the celebrity opens the ball. If they guessed the talent correctly the money will be banked in the contestant’s prize pot. But if they got it wrong then their opponent banks the cash.

Whoever has banked the most money after seven performances will go through to the final round to play for their prize pot.

GAME PROGRESSION

Round two starts and this time it’s contestant number two and their celebrity partner’s chance to guess the mystery talent of the next performer – but will they play or pass? Good guesses reward the contestants on this show, but get it wrong and their opponents reap the benefits.

Once four rounds have been played and four talents revealed, Vernon ups the stakes by adding a £20,000 ‘cash ball’ into the game. But will the next celebrity to play be able to pick it?

As the performers are whittled down to just two, Vernon ups the stakes once again, by adding yet more money to the game, a ‘cash ball’ worth a life changing £50,000.

HEAD TO HEAD – PERFORMER NUMBER 7

The contestants go head-to-head in this penultimate round to see who will go through to the final and play for their prize pot, and who will leave with nothing. Both teams will meet performer number seven and be given a clue. Each team will make their prediction (in secret) and choose their final ‘cash ball’ of the night - they are hoping they can pick that £50,000 ball.

Once each team has a ball, Vernon asks them to reveal their locked in answers.

If they both guess the same talent and they are wrong, then neither will get to open their ‘cash ball’ and add any money to their prize pots, meaning the person with the most money banked will go through to the final.

If they both guessed correctly then it will come down to the balls. Have either of them picked the £50,000 cash ball?

Only one duo can go through to the final. But will the contestant who gets through to the final round take home the money they have banked?

THE FINAL

With the losing team sent home, the team that accumulated the most money now need to try and win it. Only one talent remains on the board – which means we already know our final performer’s talent. But to win their prize pot, our team is now faced with four complete strangers. One of them is our remaining talented performer, the other three are imposters.

Each person introduces themselves and it’s time for one last clue.

However, before the finalist and celebrity lock in their guess, Vernon gives them the opportunity to double their chances of winning by removing two of the imposters from the line up. This dramatically improves their chances of winning, but it will cost them half of their prize pot.

Are they confident they can guess correctly, or do they need to improve their chances of winning? Will the contestant and their celebrity partner be able to correctly guess who out of the lineup is the talented performer? It’s time to make their final guess.

The remaining performer will take to the stage for a jaw dropping finale. But has the contestant guessed correctly in order to take home the cash they have banked throughout the show? Or could they fall at the final hurdle and lose everything?

Vernon Kay – Game of Talents Q&A

Tell us about Game of Talents?

It’s this combination of a game show and a talent show. A celebrity and a member of the public team up to form a double act, and there’s two teams like that who are facing off. A performer will then come through our big double doors and the teams have to guess which talent from a list they’re going to perform. They get a clue but that’s it, otherwise it’s up to their skills of deduction. It’s a really fun guessing game where there’s big money at stake for the contestants and at the heart of it is these incredibly talented performers.

How does it feel to be returning to Saturday night, prime time television?

It’s an absolute pleasure, it really is. You just can’t beat that shiny floor, big-scale entertainment, and I love the idea that families all over the country will be gathering around and shouting their own guesses at the TV on a Saturday night. I hope we can capture the magic of all those amazing Saturday night shows that have come before, and I feel a huge responsibility to carry on that baton, but I know we’re also going to add our own, wholly unique twist.

Do you have any hidden talents yourself?

Well there are very few of them I must say, but I can do a bit of breakdancing, people might not see that one coming.

Can you tease anything about the performers we will see?

I can say that they’re absolutely unbelievable, every last one of them is spectacular. I can’t say what they’re going to be doing, but we’ve got a bit of everything and anything, some really unexpected, showstopping performances. The audience is going to be shouting “What?!” at the screen so many times, they won’t believe what they’re seeing.

How do you think the celebrities will get on?

We’ve got a really good line up of celebrities, some close friends, some huge names, just a load of really amazing people. I’m so glad they’re all taking part, it’s one of the things that attracted me so much to the show. As for how they’ll do on the show, that’s anyone’s guess. I imagine some rivalries are going to come out between the teams and they’ll all be bringing their A game, there’s a lot of money up for grabs for the contestants they’re paired with, so it’s high stakes!
