DNA Journey

Series overview

Six new celebrities embark on an adventurous and life changing road trip to discover their family history.

Facing a different kind of challenge than they’re used to are sporting legends Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp, TV personalities Amanda Holden and Alan Carr, and father, son duo, Martin and Roman Kemp. This is the ultimate road trip with their best mate at their side.

Following their maternal and paternal bloodlines, the pairings will be delving into their family history using cutting edge DNA technology and genealogy to uncover the secrets of their past…as well as meeting living relatives they never knew existed.

As Ant and Dec before them, the celebrities will bring with them friendly rivalry and humour as well as the proverbial shoulder to cry on for emotionally charged revelations and dramatic twists, in what promises to be an experience they’ll never forget.

Which ancestor pulled off the biggest robbery of its time in 1840? Whose family rubbed shoulders with Egyptian royalty? What famous face finds their own history uniquely entwined with a relative that lived 100 years before them?

By embracing both past and present family, our duos have the unique experience of understanding what’s in their own DNA, what makes them tick….and that knowledge has the potential to change their lives forever.

Episode 2

TV personalities Amanda Holden and Alan Carr enthusiastically embrace delving into their family history on a road trip that covers Cornwall, London and Erith. Using both DNA and genealogy, they are able to unlock the secrets of the past and meet close family they never knew existed.

In true Upstairs, Downstairs fashion, Amanda's journey starts in the grounds of a stately home in Cornwall, while Alan's journey takes him to a pub in Erith with something of a colourful past.

Both celebrities are shocked and emotional to find ancestors with lives spookily entwined with their own modern-day histories and passions. It's almost like it's written in their DNA...
