Episode 2
With unique access to one of the world’s largest luxury cruise ships, the Royal Princess, this six-part series returns to follows life on board for the staff and passengers who live, work and play on the vessel as it navigates the Mediterranean.
The crew are winding up for a busy summer season and face new challenges including tension on the bridge as they sail into busy holiday destinations, and heat in the galley, where staff produce up to 20,000 high-quality meals a day.
In the second episode, the Royal Princess continues its busy summer season while Europe swelters in the record high temperatures of Heatwave Lucifer.
At anchor in beautiful Montenegro, it’s hot outside and passengers try to cool themselves in the pool, while galley staff are feeling the heat too because the entire catering operation is about to come under the very demanding scrutiny of the fleet’s health inspector.
Executive chef David must galvanize his 320 staff to clean from top to bottom in preparation. His neck, and that of new hotel general manager, Craig, are both on the line if they fail the inspection.
Meanwhile, shore excursions agent Timothy is under pressure to keep his sales figures high and is going to great lengths to beat his colleagues. He struggles with his Italian as he visits the beautiful historical town of Taormina so he can sell the tour to passengers more effectively.
Up on the bridge, rookie third officer Josh must overcome his shyness and steel himself to make announcements to the entire ship. Later, he attempts to master driving one of the ship’s tender boats - with high stakes as he tries to avoid damaging the £380,000 vessel.
As the ship sets sail, the casino opens for business, and hoping to win big are high rollers Jason and Tony, from Cheshire.
At Bellini’s, a specialist cocktail bar, staff are running of out of their signature cocktail’s key ingredient, prosecco, and as supplies dwindle to their last bottle. the shutters will come down on the drink if they don't act quickly.
And back in port, passengers are delayed getting back to the ship because of forest fires caused by the heatwave.
