Episode 4

With unique access to one of the world’s largest luxury cruise ships, the Royal Princess, this six-part series returns to follow life on board for the staff and passengers who live, work and play on the vessel as it navigates the Mediterranean.

The crew are in the middle of a busy summer season and face new challenges including tension on the bridge as they sail the huge vessel into busy holiday destinations, and heat in the galley, where staff must produce up to 20,000 high-quality meals a day.

In the fourth episode, the Royal Princess is full to capacity in the beautiful Aegean port of Santorini. As the housekeeping team undertake the daily bed change in thousands of cabins, hotel general manager Craig gets an unwelcome call - the ship’s laundry is having a meltdown.

A breakdown in the huge washing machine which normally processes tens of thousands of items a day has already produced a mountainous backlog of dirty washing and Craig needs to find a solution quickly.

Above decks it’s all change in the entertainment department with a new cruise director, 29-year-old Tobi. Stepping up from deputy for the first time, Tobi is now the boss of a dozen theatrical shows, 21 musicians and the team of four assistants who organise the hundreds of activities on the ship. He must prove he’s up to the job.

In the galley, the ship’s fine dining reputation is on the line as executive chef David has to rise to the challenge of being not just a Michelin-starred cook, but a showman too as he hosts an event called The Chef’s Table.

It’s the most expensive dining experience on board, and chef David is in the spotlight as he makes an exclusive gourmet meal for just a dozen passengers. With expectations sky-high, it’s up to him to give them their money’s worth.

Meanwhile, in the anchor station third officer Josh faces the challenge of a double anchor drop in the windswept port of Mykonos, shore excursions agent Timothy visits the spa for a haircut, and Tobi tries to conquer his nerves before hosting the captain’s formal night party.
