Series overview
Following the success of his French Adventure, chef James Martin is setting off on the next leg of his journey - the U S of A. 
This is a trip that James has been longing to take and it’s a road trip as road trips are meant to be! He’ll travel with a range of different machines, from a classic Harley Davidson to an Aston Martin, a giant Pickup Truck and a 70s Pontiac. 
Starting in California, James and his trusty crew will head down the West Coast taking in the Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Santa Cruz and Los Angeles, before swinging inland and heading for Texas. He’ll stop off at Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Dallas before his travels see him heading across the American South. In Louisiana, James experiences everything Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Avery Island and The Sugar Belt have to offer. Finally he heads to the North East, to Philadelphia, Salem, Boston and the Hamptons, ending the epic trip in New York.
By exploring food which is more surprising, exciting, diverse and enthralling than any of us imagine, James will get under the skin of a nation perhaps more troubled and divided than it has been for a generation, discovering that it can still amaze the spirited traveller with a dizzying range of fantastic cuisine and bucket list experiences… many of which James has a go at. From Surfing on the Pacific Coast to line dancing, ranch skills to baseball, James tries his hand at classic All-American pastimes.
From the exquisite craft of Thomas Keller in California or Daniel Boulud in New York, to American classics like barbecued ribs, giant steaks and even a whole smoked cow’s head, James conjures up a vision of the food scene in the USA both unexpected and enthralling, adding his own versions of classic dishes both on the road and back in his UK kitchen.
Monday 19th February – Los Angeles
James Martin enters the “City of Dreams” in style, driving a vintage Porsche on his way to some of the standout foodie highlights of the series. After a visit to an incredible food market in Santa Monica, James heads to the beach to cook up a storm. In a place full of fitness fads and the “body-beautiful”, James meets a pensioner who also happens to be a fitness coach – and she looks far from her age! James drops in on his old friend, chef-to-the-stars Wolfgang Puck, at his Beverly Hills restaurant CUT, where James assists in the kitchen in return for a bite of the best steak in town. But there’s always room for more in LA, and James finishes his visit with a bite of his favourite pizza.
Tuesday 20th February – San Antonio
James Martin begins the Texan leg of his American Adventure by visiting a place with more than a hint of Mexican spice. San Antonio was once a part of Mexico – and it’s influence is all around. After learning how prohibition helped shape the city, James uses traditional flavours and ingredients to cook his take on Mexican food in the historic market square, before sampling traditional tamales and barbecoa (Mexican barbeques) at the hands of San Antonio’s most famous chef, Johnny Hernandez. James tries street food in the form of hot, fresh chorros and also learns about the famous San Antonio Chilli Queens and their love for hot chilli like no other. 
Wednesday 21st February – Austin
James Martin continues his American Adventure through Texas by delving into Austin. He starts his day with a breakfast taco at iconic Torchy’s, followed by a cowboy themed shopping spree at Allen’s Boots. Once kitted out, he cooks delicious recipes using locally sourced ingredients in front of a mural dedicated to his favourite ingredient – butter. If it’s meat you’re after, Blacks barbecue in nearby Lockhart are the best in the business and we see what makes it so good. And after sampling some vegan BBQ food from one of Austin’s famous food trucks, James meets Austin native and musician Jackie Venson to find out why Austin is known as the USA’s live music capital.
Thursday 22nd February – Fort Worth
Welcome to Cowtown! James continues his American Adventure with a full on cowboy onslaught around Fort Worth. Famous for its great open-range cattle drives of the late 19th century, James gets in the spirit and tries his hand at cattle roping with the famous Fort Worth Herd before cooking outside the cattle exchange. After trying some of the best barbecue meats on the planet in Angelo’s, James dusts off his dancing boots to take part in line dancing at Billy Bobs: the world’s largest honky-tonk. To finish off his time here, James discovers a riverside oasis to barbecue some glorious Texan meats.
Friday 23rd February – Dallas
James Martin’s American Adventure reaches Dallas, with a trip to Southfork, the ranch made famous in the world-renowned TV series Dallas. James gets a tour before cooking in the grounds of the ranch. Once in the heart of the city, James goes to the Texas State Fair and gets and peak at the preparations happening for the huge annual event. Whilst there he tries two Texan classics: the corny dog, followed by deep fried butter. After a deep-fried, fast food hit, James then visits the arts district with a culinary stop at one of the major players in the city’s fine dining scene, The Flora Street Café. And then it’s back to Southfork for James’s own take on the TV series Dallas.
