Episode 7
Marcella heads to Nigel Stafford’s house to question him. As she walks around the house she finds a small grave before heading inside the unlocked door. Inside she’s confronted by Nigel, holding a knife.
Marcella manages to persuade Nigel to put the knife down before pressuring him into revealing that the grave belonged to his dog and the killer has taken his girlfriend. Marcella scrolls through a web chat showing a picture of Rosio, tied and bound. Mark comes to the house as the team prepare to contact the killer through Nigel’s computer. When he arrives, he hands Marcella a USB stick containing dirt on Becky. He asks Marcella if they’re okay now but she’s dismissive.
Marcella then returns to Nigel. They decide to open the chat and communicate with the killer. Nigel tells the killer that he’s pointed the police towards Vince Whitman and then asks the killer to let Rosio go. The killer agrees but goes silent when Nigel asks him when and where she’ll be.
A few hours later the killer gets back in touch with Nigel and tells him that Rosio will be delivered safely to a location. The team swoop there but as they stake out the address, Mark receives a picture on the web chat of the team at the location. The team rush to the vantage point where the photo was taken.  Meanwhile, Nigel returns to Mark and holds out his phone showing a photo of Rosio and Mark feels that he is in a dangerous situation.
Marcella receives a call from Professor Lazlow Malvo during a poignant moment and he now states that they now think that the discs are designed to keep evil inside. It matches Luke and Billy’s records but Leo and Adam remain a mystery.
With the dirt that Mark dug up, Marcella heads to confront Becky and it appears that she has passed breaking point. Later she returns the children to Marcella but the kids are not happy to be home. Emma tells Marcella that they want to go with Jason to Singapore, which is a devastating blow.
With the kids clearly not wanting to spend time with her, Marcella heads back to the police station. She puts all the evidence on the board and arrives at the fact that she needs to ask Edward further questions.
Edward reluctantly agrees to help Marcella by going to a hypnosis session with Marcella to remember the moment that car came and got Leo. But during the session Edward struggles to make anything out.
A shocking discovery is made at the police station which leads the team to believe that the killer is targeting the children through the KidsCall charity. Rav demands a list of everyone who works of everyone who works there as we cut to Jojo working in the call centre.
Marcella pieces together the evidence and realises the killer’s MO as Edward walks into the killer’s clutches.
Eric tries to get hold of Gail but with little success. Remembering her fascination with Joel Lawrence, Eric heads to the private care home to confront Dr. Lewis with Taylor in the papoose across his chest.
Vince devises a plan that’ll keep his marriage in tact whilst ridding them of Tim Williamson.
Series overview
Original multi-layered ITV crime drama series Marcella, written by internationally renowned screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and starring International Emmy award winning Anna Friel (The Girlfriend Experience, Broken, American Odyssey) returns to ITV.
Returning alongside Anna Friel as the lead Marcella, in the highly praised drama are Ray Panthaki (One Crazy Thing), Nicholas Pinnock (Fortitude, Guerrilla), Jamie Bamber (Fearless, NCIS) and Jack Doolan (White Gold).  New cast members are also welcomed; Nigel Planer (Episodes, Comic Strip Presents, The Young Ones), Keith Allen (Eddie The Eagle, My Mad Fat Diary), Sophia Brown (Beauty & The Beast, Clique, Disobedience), Peter Sullivan (Cuffs, Critical, The Borgias), Jason Hughes (Three Girls, Midsomer Murders), Victoria Smurfit (Once Upon A Time, Trial & Retribution, The Beach), Yolanda Kettle (The Crown, Love Nina), Josh Herdman (Harry Potter) and Harriet Cains (Line of Duty, Safe House).
The eight-part series is once again set in contemporary London and the new series unfolds in the unique style of Rosenfeldt’s Nordic style.  Interweaving storylines and characters from all different walks of life and backgrounds will lead the audiences on a complex and emotional journey and keep them guessing until the very end.
The story begins with the discovery of a body inside a wall. The body is clothed in a school blazer and surrounded by soft toys; a devastated Marcella soon works out that the body is that of schoolboy Leo Priestley, who was abducted a few years beforehand and a friend of Marcella’s son, Edward.
A task-force is quickly pulled together by newly promoted DCI, Tim and we are introduced to a new member of the team, LeAnn.  As the investigation progresses, we’re introduced to a number of new characters – a former famous musician Reg and his manager and friend Alan; edgy businessman Vince Whitman and his charity boss wife Maya; a previously convicted criminal Phil Dawkins; sister and brother Gail and Eric; and Becky, the new girlfriend of Marcella’s ex-husband.
Whilst the storylines entwine, Marcella is still battling with her ongoing sporadic fugue states which she struggles to come to terms with and is getting increasingly worried about the effects it is having on her and her family around her.
