Episode 8

In a cut down from the original episode, Alan Titchmarsh and his team of horticultural experts come to the aid of a mum who has to care for her seriously ill son while coping with her own debilitating illness, and turn her tiny city garden into the ultimate outdoor room.

Sixteen-year-old Danny Nwosu has been living with sickle cell anaemia for the last 10 years. This weakening condition means regular blood transfusions and the ever present danger of strokes.

His mum, Carol, has to look after Danny and his sister Ruthie, whilst dealing with her own crippling arthritis which leaves her in near constant pain. Despite all this, Carol has dedicated her time to running a charity that helps support families with children who also suffer from sickle cell disease.

Understandably this means that the garden at their home in Morden has suffered and the overgrown plot is somewhere no one in the family chooses to spend any time. This average sized urban garden is dominated by a dilapidated garage, a scrubby patch of lawn and a cracked concrete patio.
