Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball 2023

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard, the UK’s biggest Christmas party, returns with the highlights airing in an entertainment special.

Capital’s iconic music events see the world’s biggest artists come together to play for a live audience at some of the UK’s biggest venues - viewers can now be a part of all the action as ITV brings the highlights of this sell-out event to TV screens.

Presented by Ronan Kemp, Sian Welby and Chris Stark

What can viewers expect at home on ITV1 and ITVX from Capital's Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard?

It’s the start of Christmas for me. I always say, “don’t tell Summertime Ball, but Jingle Bell is my favourite.” It’s like being inside the radio at the most magical time of the year!

What is your favourite thing about hosting the event? What are you most nervous about ahead of hosting the Jingle Bell Ball?

My favourite thing is the carnage backstage at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard. It is like a celebrity fridge filled with every artist, surprise guests and random celebrities from the year! Oh I always get nervous that at some point… I will probably fall over on stage.

What is like working with Sian and Chris at the Jingle Bell Ball?

Awful [laughs] Chris refuses to work with any of us unless we wear a Peter Crouch mask, last year Sian had to be Peter and I was Abbey Clancy.

Do you have any new year's resolutions for 2024?

Probably to be released from my dad’s shadow! [laughs].

What is the atmosphere like at the Jingle Bell Ball? Can you feel the Christmas spirit?

Yeah 100%! This show brings back the magic of Christmas for me. Where else would you get this many top artists on the same stage at the same gig? It’s a music lovers dream come true!

And what about the atmosphere backstage?

It’s like last day of school vibes. There are people running down corridors, different artists gate-crashing each other’s dressing rooms. For the stars of the show, it’s the one time of the year they get to spend time with other artists and usually the last gig before they clock off for the holidays, so the second they come off stage a lot of them hang around to watch others acts and then stay to party!

Do you ever watch yourself back after hosting the event?

Now it’s on ITV it’s so cool to be able to relive the night on telly and see some of the acts we might have missed! As the hosts we’re usually backstage a lot of the time interviewing or playing silly games and sometimes we miss the actual epic performances!

Will we see you in any festive fancy dress? Or will you be wearing any sequins/glitter as it's Christmas?

The category is always disco ball glamour! I want to be as sparkly and Christmassy as possible this year!

Do you have a favourite moment from one of the previous Jingle Bell Balls?

For me it’s the surprises! There’s always something that happens that the audience don’t know about and seeing their reactions is genuinely magical! I also love that they let me drive the golf buggies to pick up the stars from their cars!

Do the three of you buy each other Christmas presents? Is there a Capital Secret Santa?

We always have a Secret Santa! Everyone is always really competitive on how creative they can be. I got BBQ stuff in last year’s one and I’ve got a great idea for what I’m going to get for Sian. But obviously I need to keep it a massive secret.

Is there an act you're particularly excited to see perform this year?

Well, I was lucky enough to perform with Busted a couple of months ago when they last performed at The O2. I was brought out on stage to perform “Sleeping With The Light On” with them, which was one of the maddest experiences of my life. I’m excited to watch them at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard without having to be scared of messing it up for them!

Is there any other Christmas telly you're particularly looking forward to watching?

I am weirdly excited about Deal or No Deal coming back! We had Stephen Mulhern on the show recently and it made me realise how much I miss that show!

Do you have a favourite Christmas film?

I’m one of those that believes Die Hard is one of the best Christmas films. I think Sian disagrees that it is actually a Christmas film!
Do you have a favourite moment from this year?

Stepping out at Wembley Stadium for Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard.  It was my first time at the Ball and was one of the biggest moments of the year for me. It’s incredible to see so many Capital listeners having the time of their lives!
