Britain Get Singing

Britain Get Singing - the Christmas TV extravaganza created and produced by Lifted Entertainment (part of ITV Studios), airing this festive season on ITV1 and ITVX.

Last year, Loose Women were declared champions with their rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water but who has what it takes to impress this year and walk away victorious?

Hosted by Roman Kemp, Britain Get Singing will see five groups made up of stars from TV’s biggest shows - Good Morning Britain, Love Island, Coronation Street, The Masked Singer and EastEnders - take to the stage in a bid to deliver a show-stopping performance.

The groups will put their vocal prowess to the test as they look to not only impress the studio audience but a Super Panel made up of some of TV’s most iconic judges. This year, The Masked Singer’s Jonathan Ross joins the Super Panel alongside Adam Lambert, Alesha Dixon and

The groups who will go head-to-head in this spectacular sing-off are:

  • Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins, Alex Beresford, Laura Tobin and Dr Amir Khan

  • Love Island’s Davide Sanclimenti, Zachariah Noble, Molly Marsh, Jacques O’Neill and Marcel Somerville

  • Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney, Vinta Morgan, Lisa George, Cherylee Houston and Mollie Gallagher

  • The Masked Singer’s ChrIs Kamara (Ghost), Russell Watson (Cockroach) and Aled Jones (Traffic Cone)

  • EastEnders’ Emma Barton, Heather Peace, Clair Norris, Matthew Morrison, Angela Wynter and Sid Owen

Supporting ITV’s groundbreaking mental health campaign, Britain Get Talking, this festive TV event will once again include inspiring moments in which the stars discuss their own experiences of mental health.

Britain Get Singing has been commissioned for ITV by Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s Head of Entertainment Commissioning, Paula Thomas Gallie, ITV Entertainment Commissioning Editor. The special will be produced by Lifted Entertainment (part of ITV Studios) and the Executive Producers are Lee McNicholas and Simon Marsh.

Britain Get Talking is supported by Mind and YoungMinds, and by SAMH in Scotland, to encourage people to look after their mental health by connecting with others. Created with Uncommon Creative Studio, it originally launched in 2019 when Ant and Dec paused the live broadcast of Britain’s Got Talent to get the nation talking.

Since then,150 million conversations have taken place as a result of Britain Get Talking campaigns and initiatives, which have featured celebrities including Susanna Reid, Maya Jama, Davina McCall and Roman Kemp.

How does it feel to be back on ITV this Christmas for another instalment of Britain Get Singing?

I love it! It’s one of the real fun shows on at Christmas this year. There’s no judgement or anything like that. It’s pure Christmas party vibes with all your favourite TV shows. It’s fantastic.

Why is this a project that you want to be involved in?

At the heart of it is the Britain Get Talking campaign which is about mental wellbeing which is a big thing for me and being a part of that campaign is very special. We started seven million conversations from that campaign in the last year and that’s incredible! To keep carrying on that work but also having some fun with it. It doesn’t all have to be serious, it can be silly - it’s just about getting that awareness out there.

What can viewers expect this time around?

More rapping which is shocking! An outrageously good voice in Claire Sweeney.

What was the atmosphere like in the studio?

Pure Christmas party! Everyone had their Christms jumpers on. It’s emotional as well, a lot of the stories are emotional. Kammy is on this time through The Masked Singer and that was really a touching moment - I can’t wait for people to see. He’s going through so much with his speech apraxia so seeing him up there really giving it his all flanked by Aled Jones and Russell Watson, so he’s in good company. But it was very emotional.

Were you surprised by anyone’s vocal ability?

Davide from Love Island singing in Italian. That is something you need to see!

What was it like having Jonathan join the Super Panel? What do you think he brings to the show?

We’ve got The Masked Singers this year so it’s only right to bring one of their own. Having Jonathan was really good fun and he’s hilarious isn’t he? He’s the king of chat and we’re doing a show about Britain Get Talking as well as singing. It’s another bit of star power to our line-up of judges.

Are there any funny moments from filming that you can share?

There is a surprise from none other than Ken Barlow hidden in the show. See if you can work that out!

You’re very busy this Christmas with Britain Get Singing and Royal Carols: Together at Christmas. Are you going to have some time off? Any nice plans for Christmas?

Christmas is so busy this year! I’ll be happy to just have some sleep, I don’t think my parents will be able to wake me up. I’m going to go into hibernation, that’s my plan this Christmas.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

For someone that does a breakfast show, it’s sleep! And I don’t get to go back home much so that’s nice. My mum is the best host - it’s really lovely to be able to see everyone and shut away from everything. Have an excuse to sit at home and have nothing to do!

Do you have any goals for 2024? Anything exciting you’re working on?

Next year I’m trying to tone it down a bit in terms of work. Next year is personal well-being - that’s the goal!
