Jonathan Ross: Must Watch Films

This awards season, Jonathan Ross presents a special Oscars edition of his must-watch films on ITVX. Featuring Academy Award winners Adaptation, Monster’s Ball and Ghost. Oscar nominated Requiem for a Dream, Ghost World, and Winter’s Bone, and an absolute classic: An Officer and a Gentleman.

Feature films: 

Films joining ITVX to mark the most romantic month of the year include An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) starring Richard Gere, GHOST (1990) starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, Mannequin (1987) starring Kim Cattrall, Mermaids (1990) starring Cher and Winona Ryder and Valley Girl (1983) starring Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage. For those looking for something a little darker, ITVX will feature cult favourite Heathers (1988) starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, horror film It Follows (2014) starring Maika Monroe and thrillers Enemy (2013) starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Winter’s Bone (2010) starring Jennifer Lawrence. Sci-fi fans can look forward to Pacific Rim Uprising (2018) starring John Boyega, Super 8 (2011) starring Elle Fanning and The Road (2009) starring Viggo Mortensen. 

Series: 

Farscape (1999 - 2003) 

Every episode of the fantastic Farscape universe. Five years ago, astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) attempted to use the Earth's atmosphere to propel his ship, Farscape 1, at great speeds across the solar system. He went much further though and was sucked down a wormhole to a distant part of the galaxy and into the middle of a battle. He was rescued by a group of escaping prisoners and taken aboard their ship, a living ship known as Moya...

G’wed  

G’wed is an uplifting, heart-warming and hilarious portrayal of teenagers today and how they view the world. 

It delves into the working class culture of “surviving with a sense of humour”. The distinctive voice of Liverpool and the lived experience of the kids from the city will be at the heart of this comedy, tackling big issues like grief, sex, diversity and class differences with a wicked sense of humour.

From Reece, the anti-hero at the heart of the show, a superficially misbehaving, potty-mouthed lad, who constantly surprises, whether that be quoting Mother Teresa, his knowledge of the work of John Steinbeck or his incredibly mature take on grief, to Aimee - ferociously determined, go-getting and emotionally mature – G’wed showcases a part of the country, and a bunch of characters, that you rarely see on TV.

ITVX Kids: 

Interstella Ella

In the year 3021, on a space station somewhere between Mars and Jupiter in the Milky Way, 8-year-old Ella Ryder sets out with her friends on exciting adventures of discovery. And because they are in space, there is lots to experience and even more to explore!

Baby Born (additional episodes)

Step into the enchanting world of BABY born girl Emma– including her best friend Teddy and Berta, the duck on wheels – as they embark on extraordinary, make-believe escapades.

Tara Duncan (additional episodes)

Tara Duncan is a TV series about a 17 year old girl who is also a Spellbinder and defeats evil villains from the Otherworld with her fellow Spellbinders and friends Sparrow and Cal. The television series is based on the novel series written by the French author Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian.

The Rubbish World of Dave Spud (additional episodes) 

The misadventures of underdog Dave Spud and his family. They embark on some extraordinary expeditions along with the likes of Gareth the Starfish and one eyed fea ridden Fuzzypeg the dog. 

The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is an animated series directed and created by Ed Foster, produced by Iain Harvey. 

12th February

Extraordinary 

Comedy series Extraordinary, a Disney+ UK original production, written by series creator and co-executive producer Emma Moran and executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle (Killing Eve, The Durrells) and Lee Morris and Charles Dawson, is set in a world where everyone develops a power on their 18th birthday… everyone, that is, except for Jen (Máiréad Tyers).

The series sees 25-year-old Jen adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope, a lot of desperation, and her flatmates as she begins her journey to find her superpower. Also starring Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna and Luke Rollason and Siobhán McSweeney.

Under The Banner of Heaven

Under The Banner of Heaven, the true crime drama from Academy Award-winner Dustin Lance Black, starring Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones. The series was inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer, and follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah.

ITVX Kids: 

All Round Champions Series 3

Bringing together North America’s most successful young athletes for a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled sports fest that will decide the All-Round Champion!

Over 11 events including a final thrilling pentathlon, ten of the best who are at the top of their game in sports like tennis, dance, track cycling, trampoline, and boxing will step outside of their own comfort zones to compete against each other in all their rivals’ sports. They will also see how their competitors fare in their own personal sport. Coached by world-renowned sports stars and Olympians, each competitor is scored on the skill, sportsmanship, and improvement after each athletic challenge. At the end of the series, one hardcore athlete will be crowned the All-Round Champion.

Polly Pocket Series 5

Polly shares her magic pocket with her friends – now they all have their own unique powers! Together they’ll explore fantastical new worlds during their tiny adventures!

February highlights on BritBox UK include drama The Marriage (2022) starring Sean Bean and Nicola Walker, factual series Alexander Armstrong in Sri Lanka (2023) and additional Monty Python content including the first two series of Flying Circus, Monty Python: Before the Flying Circus, Live at Aspen, Live at the Hollywood Bowl and more.
