How I escaped domestic violence

A shocking report out today shows that domestic abuse victims suffer on average three years of abuse before they get help. And in the year before they get help, professionals (like GPs, Police and A&E staff) miss on average five opportunities to help them and refer them on. Some women suffer over 50 incidents of abuse before it stops and almost a quarter of high-risk victims went to an A&E department because of the injuries.

Today we meet domestic violence survivor, Sue Mills whose husband threatened to kill her in a brutal knife attack. The terrifying moments were caught on camera and today Sue is opening up about her ordeal for the first time.
