It's save the koala day! Find out how to help protect koalas from extinction
In February this year, the koala was officially recognised as endangered, following the loss of tens of thousands in recent natural disasters. To mark ‘Save The Koala Day’, we’re going live to the team at Port Macquarie Koala Hospital in Australia, who are working around the clock to help these incredible animals.
Although the species is native to Australia, volunteer of the Koala Hospital, Sue Ashton said: "We're a not-for-profit and we don't get any government funding. Donations are always appreciated because it costs almost a million dollars to run the hospital every year but also people can adopt a koala."
Dr Scott joined us in the studio to tell us more information on how people in the UK can help. He said: "Over here we can definitely support the Australian population like wonderful Barb and Sue there who are trying to make a difference by giving funds to them, by lobbying the government, travelling carefully, but also WWF, Vets for Compassion and of course the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital."
