James Martin's pumpkin soup

James Martin is in the kitchen with Phillip and Holly, showing us how to make a delicious bowl of comforting Christmas pumpkin soup with crispy sage.

James Martin's Pumpkin Soup

Serves: 6


1 pumpkin, peeled and diced

1 litre milk

50g butter

100ml double cream

Zest and juice of 1 lime, to taste

Optional to finish:

Double cream

Pumpkin oil

Deep fried sage leaves

Pumpkin seeds, toasted


1. Place the pumpkin and milk in a pan and bring to the boil then simmer for 5 minutes. 

2. Add the butter, cream and squeeze in the zest and juice of lime. 

3. Next transfer the soup to a blender or use a stick blender or thermomix and blend until really smooth. Season to taste and adjust if necessary. 

4. Spoon the soup into bowls, drizzle in the cream, a little pumpkin oil and top with sage and toasted pumpkin seeds. Serve whilst hot.
