Male Cancer Awareness Week

On the 7th October, we launch a very special Male Cancer Awareness Week with Samuel L Jackson's One for the Boys campaign.

We will be covering a range of cancers, and hearing from celebrities and viewers who have battled cancer, beaten cancer, and sadly those who have lost loved ones to the disease.

We will end week with a Live Cancer Clinic presented by Peter Andre, whose brother recently lost his battle with cancer, and This Morning's resident doc, Dr Chris Steele MBE.

Monday 7th October – The Royal Marsden

Samuel L Jackson and Phillip Schofield visit a male cancer ward at the world famous Royal Marsden Hospital in London. They talk to staff, patients currently being treated, and Mark, who on the day we met him was celebrating the first anniversary of his successful surgery at the hospital. Despite ignoring the warning signs his body was sending him for FOUR years, he finally got treated for prostate cancer and is now in remission, all because his wife nagged him until he got himself checked.

Tuesday 8th October – The Royal Marsden

Phillip and Samuel are back at the Royal Marsden to meet Brenda whose husband ignored the warning signs, but unlike Mark mentioned above, sadly this story didn’t have a happy ending. We also meet Carl who discovered a lump on his testicle when he was just 19. When the doctors wouldn’t see him immediately, his mother came along and insisted he was checked, which led to a referral and treatment for testicular cancer. His amazing story has to be heard to be believed.

Wednesday 9th October – My daddy has cancer

We meet brave Callum and Georgie who lost their father just one year ago to cancer. Their father Sean was a loving husband and doted on his children. He was also very fit, in fact he’d only recently finished a triathalon. Then he started to have minor medical problems, not in themselves alarming, BUT sadly he ignored them for almost ten months. By the time he got himself checked it was too late. Georgie, Callum and mum Anne Marie tell the story from their perspective.

Thursday 10th October – Michael Douglas

Samuel L Jackson sits down for an exclusive chat with fellow Hollywood Superstar Michael Douglas to talk about his recent battle with tongue cancer. He talks candidly about initial misdiagnosis, his reaction to hearing the ‘C’ word for the first time; and the reaction of his family… especially to headlines such as ‘Michael Douglas has three weeks to live’.
