Martin Lewis

As the MoneySavingExpert, some people think I’m a financial adviser. I’m not, I'm very proudly a journalist. My day job is running my website MoneySavingExpert.com which I started in 2003 and now gobsmackingly has over 12m users a month.

As well as writing and broadcasting on the This Morning sofa, and my own ITV evening show, much of my time is spent on campaigning work. I’ve been called the ‘big gob in chief’ of financial justice campaigns like reclaiming bank charges and PPI which together have got people many billions of pounds back as well as Citizens Advice Consumer Champion of the Year.

My claim to fame is research has twice named me the most googled man in the UK.

I’m best known for: Getting just a tad worked up about my subject, and when people get ripped off

The proudest moment of my career is: Getting the call from the Education Minister that after three years of campaigning and lobbying, the government had agreed to put financial education on the curriculum and it would be announced the next day.

The first thing I do in the morning is: Get out of bed (my alarm is always set 13 minutes before I leave the house)

My favourite breakfast is: Huevos Rancheros – which is scrambled eggs, melting cheese, tomatoes, chillies, avocado and tortilla – but I usually just have muesli.

The most famous person in my phonebook is: Hmmm… I don’t really do famous people, not my scene. However President Obama is in there. Want proof? His number is 001-202-456-1111. Then again, I did just grab it from the White House website’s ‘Call the president’ number.

The actor who would play me in a film about This Morning is: Zachery Quinto (but they'd have to play him at double speed)

My favourite memory from working on This Morning is: Meeting Alison Hammond on a plane, and having her hoist me up onto her knee as a flight attendant wanted to walk past. I sat there like a little naughty child.

If I wasn’t featuring on This Morning, I’d be: At home playing with my daughter (OK, that’s a lie, I’d be at my desk writing and researching ways to save money, but being with my little one is far more appealing)

You’d be surprised to learn that: I once had a top 40 hit single. Well I say I had it, it was a ‘featuring’ credit', but it got in the charts. The song? I Fought The Lloyds – all about bank charges.

The one thing I couldn’t live without is: Playing Mrs MoneySavingExpert at Scrabble (my all-time average over the 968 games played is 406, hers is 367 - yes, I have a graph!)
