Rishi Sunak investigated by police for not wearing seatbelt
Lancashire Police have said they are 'looking into the matter' after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was seen filming a video to promote the Government's levelling-up funding in a moving car without a seatbelt, an offence which can be punished with fines of up to £500.
The Prime Minister has apologised for the 'mistake' and Downing Street said the Prime Minister had made a “brief error of judgment” by removing the safety device on Thursday.
A Downing Street spokesman said Mr Sunak 'fully accepts this was a mistake an apologises, the Prime Minister believes everyone should wear a seatbelt'.
Mr Sunak was asked about failing to wear his seatbelt as he walked off from a broadcast interview in Hartlepool, but he declined to answer.
Labour said it would be 'very serious' if Mr Sunak was to receive a second fine, having paid a fixed-penalty notice during the "partygate" scandal while Chancellor.
