The Coupon King's tips to recycle and make cash

Did you know brands will give you vouchers, freebies or even cold hard cash if you recycle with them? From clothing to empty bottles, or even your IKEA furniture (no matter the condition), the Coupon King proves why you shouldn’t just throw it away, you should make it pay.

20% Discount From Old School Uniform 

Bring pre-loved children's school uniforms into selected M&S stores. In the children’s clothing section, you’ll find a 'Shwopping box’. Drop clothes off in the box and scan the QR code and you’ll receive a 20% off voucher in your M&S Sparks app. The offer works on full price kids clothing (excluding footwear and school uniform). Any donated school wear goes to Oxfam, to either be recycled or sold for charity. 

John Lewis £5 Off 

Taking 5 or more pre-loved items of clothing to John Lewis gets you a £5 voucher. Bring them to a fashion counter and in return your £5 off a £20 spend voucher can be used on fashion or homeware in store. You can bring in clothing from any brand, donated clothes go to charity shops or into textile recycling. 

£5 Schuh Voucher 

Schuh has a scheme called Sell Your Soles & Too Big For Your Boots, that lets you recycle old or outgrown pairs of shoes. For each pair you bring in, you’ll be given a £5 off voucher for your next pair, with a £25 minimum spend. The shoes you bring in don’t have to be from Schuh, and can be for kids or adults. All donated shoes are recycled. 

£5 H&M Voucher 

Take a supermarket bag full of unwanted or tattered clothes into a H&M to get yourself a £5 off £25 spend voucher. You’ll need to be a H&M member to get this, but you’ll earn an extra 20 points on top. Recycled clothes will be reused, recycled or marketed as second hand clothing. 

15% Off From Old Perfume Bottles 

If you have any empty glass perfume bottles at home, you can trade it in for a 15% discount on your next bottle. This is at The Perfume Shop, where you can take them to any store nationwide. The 15% has to be used on the same day, but can be used on any fragrance. Every bottle is recycled or reused, and a tree is planted.

Free Face Mask From Lush 

If you’re a Lush shopper, you can take 5 empty Lush pots back, and exchange them for a free face mask or scalp mask of your choice. You can bring back clear plastic bottles, makeup packaging, black pots and spray bottles, just as long as they’re from Lush. All returned pots are recycled into new packaging. 

Boots £5 Worth Of Points 

Boots have an app called Scan 2 Recycle, where you can earn Advantage Card points for recycling hard to recycle items. Download the app, and scan in 5 empty bottles or make-up items. Once they’re all approved, take them into the store and deposit into the recycling box and scan the QR code. You’ll then receive a voucher getting you 500 extra points when you spend £10 in store. 

Sell Ikea Furniture Back For Vouchers 

Ikea has a 'Buyback scheme', where if you take preloved furniture back into the store, and you get up to 50% of the original cost back. If it’s in pristine condition, you get 50% of what you paid back, a few minor scratches gets you 40% back and several scratches and severe scratches gets you 30% back. You’ll need to bring the item back fully assembled and an inspection will be carried out to confirm its value. Money will be given as Ikea vouchers.
