With Maybelline launching the largest make-up recycling programme in the UK and L’Oreal Paris saving 7,000 tonnes of plastic with a change to its Elvive shampoo and conditioner bottles, the beauty industry is taking its impact on the environment seriously.

Maybelline and TerraCycle make-up recycling bins
Maybelline's make-up recycling bins are being rolled out to 1,000 locations across the country, including Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Superdrug.
When you finish ANY branded make-up product (except make-up brushes and nail varnishes), you can drop it into one of the recycling bins and it will be recycled for free by waste management company TerraCycle.
Elemis' Pro-Collagen Energising Marine Cleanser bottle is 100% recyclable, including the pump. Two new Superfood launches also follow the same new packaging, which shows consumers where and what they can recycle. For Christmas 2020, Elemis' gift collection packaging and vac trays will also be 100% recyclable.

Olay has become the first major global skincare brand to test refillable packaging in an attempt to reduce plastic waste. Olay will save 94% of their plastic use every time they sell a refillable.

The hair straighteners brand Cloud Nine has created Hair Straightener Heaven, and if you send them (by printing out their pre-paid postage label) any brand of hair straighteners you no longer use, they'll do the recycling for you! Cloud Nine has recycled 50,000 straightening irons to date.

Bulldog’s Sensitive Glass Razor handles are made using 70% recycled glass from durable beer bottles and come in plastic-free packaging made from recycled card.
At the end of their life, these reusable razor handles can be put into your glass recycling bin.

L'Oreal are making changes to their Elvive shampoo and conditioner bottles that will save 900 tonnes of plastic annually in the UK alone. By using 0% virgin plastic in their Elvive packaging, L'Oreal will save the same weight in plastic as 50 double decker buses.
