NHS – Blood & Organ Donation

Introduction and information on organ donation and how it works.

NHS Blood and Transplant Donor Line

Donor Line: 0300 123 23 23

Types of donation

By donating your organs after you die, you will help save and transform the lives of desperately ill people.  Each donor is precious as fewer than 5,000 people each year in the UK die in circumstances where they can become a donor. So if you want to make a real difference join the NHS Organ Donor Register and talk about your donation decision with family and friends. Letting them know what you've decided now makes it much easier for them to support your decision to be a donor.

British Bone Marrow Registry

Everyday thousands of people’s lives are transformed thanks to our amazing donors, partners, campaigners, clinical trial applicants and colleagues. We would love you to be part of our story.

The British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) is part of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). We help patients find suitable stem cell matches by recruiting potential donors from our dedicated blood donors.

Join the stem cell register

Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. We’re saving lives right now. Three lives a day, in fact.  By growing the stem cell register, carrying out ground-breaking research and providing the best post-transplant care, we’re giving families a future.  But we can’t do it without you. Without you, there is no cure.

Human tissue has many different uses including transplantation, teaching, medical research and display in public places such as museums. There are many different types of human tissue including: skin, body parts, organs, stem cells and bone and they have different uses.  The HTA has an important role in making sure human tissue is used safely and ethically, and with proper consent.  On this link you can find out more about tissue donation for different purposes and the role of HTA regulation.
