Vanessa Feltz's daughter opens up about her battle with flu

Just two weeks ago Vanessa Feltz got emotional on the show sharing that her 36 year-old daughter Allegra was hospitalised with the flu.

As hospitalised cases jump 40% in a week, Allegra joins us to share more about her own flu battle and the vaccine that she says saved her life.

The mum of two said: "I don't think I've ever been so ill. I had been vaccinated and it hit me very very hard, I felt like I was going to die."

She added: "When you get the flu and it hits you, it's not like anything else. I had a very bad Covid and this was much much worse.

The consultant said I was so so so desperately ill with the vaccine that if I hadn't had the vaccine I suppose I might not be here."

The UK Health Security Agency have shared a warning that children under five are particularly vulnerable to the flu. Dr Sara said: "The worry is that there's been an 11% drop in those aged two-three in having their vaccination, and it's that age group that is also the ones that were so protected over the pandemic. The two-three year-olds are the pandemic babies who haven't been exposed to many viruses."

Professor Beate added: "The basic hygiene around preventing infections for respiratory droplets is just the same, but the main thing is there is a vaccine we should use if you can get access."
