Get juiced for January!
Is your goal for 2019 to get healthy in a very easy way? Then look no further than juicing. With drinks that not only taste great but work wonders on your body, we’re joined by juice expert Jason Vale.
Whether you want to lose weight, you need more energy or just want to make sure your immune system is fighting fit, Jason has a drink for everything, and he’ll be busting some common juicing myths.
Please note all recipes make 1 serving so you will need to double up the ingredient for 2 and triple for x3
Cold Buster
Ingredients
1 apple (must be golden delicious)
1-inch raw ginger
½ lemon (unwaxed)
120ml boiling water
1 heaped teaspoon manuka honey
1 pinch cinnamon
How to make
Juice the apple, ginger and lemon (leave the peel on). Half fill a mug with the juice and then top up with hot (not boiling) water. Add the Manuka honey, stir well and finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon
Benefits
This is the Juice Master’s take on a Lemsip and will soon kick a cold into touch.
Even if you don’t have a cold, this is a great caffeine free alternative on a cold night.
Manuka Honey is anti-viral and antibacterial which may benefit colds and sore throats.
Ginger is everyone’s favourite anti! It’s antibacterial, anti-viral, ant-fungal, anti-histamine. It’s also really invigorating.
Lemon juice is very high in citric acid, which has been documented over the years as helping the body fight off colds.
Hunger Buster
Ingredients
1 small handful ice
1 Medjool date (remove stone)
1 small banana
1 small handful blueberries
1 small handful spinach
300ml almond milk (unsweetened)
1 teaspoon almond butter
1 teaspoon cashew butter
1 tablespoon hemp (or pea and hemp) protein powder
How to make
Add the ice to your blender, followed by all other ingredients. Blend for 15 – 30 seconds.
Benefits
This recipe is packed with protein and fibre which is what makes it super satiating and keeps you feeling fuller for longer.
Banana’s help with energy and they are loaded with amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.
Dates are an excellent natural sweetener and also high in fibre which is important for overall health.
Nut butters are full of amino acids and healthy fats. They also make this really creamy making you feel more satisfied, like you’re having a real treat
Energy booster
Ingredients
3 Golden Delicious apples (must be golden delicious)
2 sticks celery
1 bulb raw beetroot
1 (peeled) lime
1/3 cucumber
1 small (ripe) avocado
1 (ripe & peeled) banana
1 teaspoon hemp protein powder
1 small handful ice cubes
How to make
Juice the apples, celery, beetroot, lime, and cucumber. Put the avocado into the blender along with the peeled banana, protein powder and the ice. Blend until smooth. If it’s too thick, simply add more apple juice.
Benefits
This recipe is full of amino acids, carbohydrates, essential fats, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and water.
It has an ideal balance of sodium and potassium which makes this a great pre/post workout drink.
Raw beetroot juice contains high levels of nitrate, which widens the blood vessels, which increases the flow of oxygenated blood around the body which in turn gives you more energy. Beetroot shots are extremely popular with athletes.
Hemp is an excellent source of protein and contains all 20 amino acids used in the human body.
Bananas are a good source of carbohydrate, this combined with their natural sugars makes them a well-known energy booster.
Apples help fuel your while helping to stabilise blood sugar levels.
