Debate: Is smacking harmful to children's mental health?
The Scottish government look likely to ban smacking after publishing a new bill, but now there are calls to make it UK-wide from the Association of Educational Psychologists who say it has a profound effect on children’s mental health.
They cite it ‘models aggressive behaviour and it says it is OK to use violence’, revealing there are more effective ways of teaching children right from wrong.
Rebecca Jane says she smacks her young children and should be allowed to make her own judgements rather be told off by so-called ‘airy fairy parents raising a nation of brats. Meanwhile Hilary Freeman says no good can come from violence and striking a child is just as bad as striking an adult.
