Dick, Julian and Anne arrive at Kirrin Cottage to stay with their cousin George. They find her a little upset because Uncle Quintin has taken over Kirrin Island.

The Five can't understand why Uncle Quintin wishes to be left alone and George decides to take matters into her own hands.

Home for the holidays at Kirrin Cottage, under the watchful eye of a tutor, the Five are not expecting to become involved in another adventure - so it is more thrilling when they stumble across a code which leads to the most unforeseen happenings.
